What is Indoor Positioning?

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) enable the location, tracking and measurement of objects in any environment where GPS and other satellite technologies lack precision or fail entirely, such as inside buildings, underground or in urban canyons.

They are used to extend the use of GNSS enabled technologies in to areas that have no clear line of sight to the sky.

What is indoor positioning used for?

Indoor positioning is utilised across an incredibly diverse range of sectors and the flexibility and option for bespoke adaptation means there are no limits to its potential applications.

Simple indoor positioning systems are used to track people and objects in defined areas such as isolated worker tracking in hotels or stock moving around a warehouse. However, advanced systems, such as VIPS, allow for dynamic and complex applications including autonomous vehicle testing in an underground carpark or crane safety in dense urban construction sites.

VBOX Precision Ranging System (VPRS)

Our new VBOX Precision Ranging System (VPRS) uses industry leading Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, enabling you to accurately measure the distance between two moving objects in real-time to within ±2 cm. With no complex survey or set up routines required, VPRS can be used in any environment and the combination of an update rate of 100 times a second and low latency makes the system ideal for high-dynamic applications.

The VBOX Indoor Positioning System (VIPS) is a highly accurate way of measuring 3D position, speed and attitude (pitch/roll/yaw) in areas where GNSS is not available. Delivering ±2 cm accuracy and update rates of 100 times a second, the system is small, rugged and low powered, making it ideal for a range of applications.
